No snowday here

Ullr - the Norse god of snow
The forecasters promised us a night of heavy snow last night - the heaviest snowfall for a decade they said. `Brilliant' I thought. This usually means a day off work and the chance to take my children out and throw snowballs at them. As a precaution, I petitioned Ullr the Norse snow god to send an abundance of the cool white stuff. We only tend to get a snowday about once a year (if we are lucky) in this neck of the woods. Imagine my disappointment when I woke up and looked out the window - nothing, just rain (incidentally, Swansea is officially the wettest place in Britain) while it seems that just about everywhere else in England and Wales is covered with a blanket of Ullr's discharge. This leads me to conclude that either:
a) Ullr does not exist or
b) Ullr exists but is indifferent to my supplications.

Ah well, maybe next winter!

Or perhaps Ullr got distracted and forgot about Swansea. It is also possible that Ullr, for one reason or another, could not carry out the full task. It could also be possible that your karma led to this so i say stay positive and it'll come and if not then opt for fake snow and take the day off (even a teacher can dream).

Dear Ramah,
If Ullr could not carry out the full task, he does not deserve to be called a god. I am not such a megalomaniac as to think that my personal Karma would affect the fortunes of an entire region. No, I'm quite happy with the atheist option thank you very much. Furthermore, If you are arguing from the Buddhist view (which you seem to be)wouldn't taking the day off involve a breach of both the second and the fourth precept?
